3 Things NOT to Do in Bali

Are you excited to travel to Bali and hit the sand and the waves? We bet you are. But Bali, like many other countries around the world, has its own way of doing things. The team from Aloha Bali Surf wants you to have the best time possible while visiting our surf school in Bali, which is why we’ve collected some travel tips for you here.

Below you’ll find a few things that you should never do in Bali.

1. Don’t Exchange Money at the Airport

This is something that many tourists are often aware of, but if you’re traveling for the first time or it’s been a while, you should know to never change your money at the airport. This is because, although it might seem quite convenient, airport money-changing fees are often exorbitant in the extreme. You’ll be much better off finding an ATM to take out money or doing a bit of research on the rates you can get from an offsite money changer.

2. Don’t Bribe the Police Immediately

Unfortunately, in many countries, as a tourist one of the easiest ways to get out of a sticky situation is to offer the police a bribe. This is especially true if you’re pulled over in the car or on a motorbike. However, don’t just whip out a wad of bills right away, as this can be dangerous and somewhat tactless. Speak with the police and then make them a small but generous offer once they let you off the hook like you’d tip a taxi driver or waiter in a foreign country.

3. Always Pay the Proper Parking Fees

When parking on the street, or in a garage, never try to avoid paying what they’re asking to park. Even if you’re trying to save a few extra bucks, keep in mind you’re also paying to have someone watch over your vehicle and ensure it remains safe until you get back. If you try to park and get away without paying, your car might not be there when you get back.
